Back to Work

It's been so long since I have been at work (literally 3 months!) and I have missed that place so much. Yesterday I had my first shift back and I can't even tell you how good it felt to dig out and put on my red and yellow uniform!
It was an 8 hour shift in the basket room so it was pretty intense but it was easily made better by having a good catch up with all my work friends and not to mention getting paid!
I've got a couple more shifts lined up for the next few weeks along with training (joy!) and I really can;t wait to get back into the work routine.

Exam Stress

Due to being very ill over Christmas, I was given mitigating circumstances allowing me to postpone my January exams until I was fully better. D-day has finally arrived and along with a mid-term exam I have to sit five exams over the next two weeks.
As weird and nerdy as it sounds I usually quite enjoy exams, but I haven't had lectures in these modules since mid December putting a heavy revision workload onto my plate. I know it's only first year lectures and so you only have to pass them to move onto second year, but it's still really important to me to do well and show the lectures that I am motivated and keen to get a good degree.

..Let the stress commence..

How to: Making vests from t-shirts

Step 1: Lay the shirt flat and cut a slit the length of the neck.
Cut this deeper or shallower depending on how high/low you want the finished neckline to be.
Step 2: Cut along from the slit all the way around the neckline, keep the line as even as possible.

Step 3: Using a biro or chalk mark out the line where you will cut the sleeve off.
Mark along the shoulder the width that you want the strap to be, if unsure cut bigger and adjust later.
Follow the line of the sleeve down and go further past the armpit, the lower down you cut the more of your side will be visible.
Then follow along this line with the scissors, cutting the back and front of the shirt at the same time.

Step 4: Once you have finished cutting off the neck and sleeves, stretch out the fabric you have just cut. To do this just take the new edge in two places and pull, this will prevent fraying and will stop the edges looking rough and cut.
Once you have tried on the shirt you can adjust the sleeves/neck to suit.
I always find this style of shirt works best with graphic tees such as band shirts etc.
Becuase it's DIY and anything could go wrong, the shirts I use are thrifted from charity shops and cost on average £2, so it doesn't overly matter if anything goes wrong and the money goes to a good cause.

Rowing #1

I can't even describe how much of a good time i've had today..

The day didn't start off too great having to wake up at 7am on a Sunday, then to make it worse I had a spontaneous nose bleed! It was so lovely and peaceful walking around campus when everyone else is in bed and the weather was perfect too, made up for the ealry start by far.
The bus (as predicted) was very late, but when we finally arrived in Llanberis we were greated by perfect rowing conditions; flat water and sunshine.
After assembling the boat and getting them into the water we finally climbed into the boats and set off rowing. I don't think there is a better feeling then getting into a good stroke rhythm and having the wind in your hair listening to nothing but the sounds of the blades gliding through the water.
The trickiest part is getting the boat into the water and then getting yourself into the boat, to do this you have to walk bare foot down the gravel and wade into the water..not a pleasant experience when the ground is rough and the water is icey..note to self: Buy flip flops!

This has been, by far, the best day I have had at univeristy and I can't wait to get back out onto the water again..
